Firefighter Lost to Testicular Cancer; Mother Starts Foundation

Posted: Updated:

DENISON, TX--A Texoma woman wants to make a difference for people battling a deadly disease. She lost her son to cancer this year.

Denison fire fighter Robert Jones died from testicular cancer in January. Saturday night, his mother Rhonda Kohles and friends held a fundraiser at the Denison Bar, Steel Rose.

She wants to make sure men are aware of the dangers....and how to prevent...testicular cancer.

Kohles started a foundation in honor of her late son.

"Robert was a jewel. He was one of my four children and he was a father of three, he was a Denison firefighter and just a friend to so many," Rhonda Kohles said, Robert's mother. "Just a wonderful guy."

"It's a tragedy. For young men to be losing their lives to testicular cancer...the cancer is highly treatable," Mike Craycraft said, cancer survivor and founder of the Testicular Cancer Society. "These men get one foot in the hole because they get diagnosed so late."

Jones was only 27 years old when he passed away. For more information on the Robert D. Jones foundation, you can join the Facebook page, "Robert D Jones Foundation FFATC."
