ICE STORM WARNINGS AND WINTER STORM WARNINGS IN EFFECT THURSDAY AND FRIDAY FOR POSSIBLE SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS. A MIX OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET EXPECTED, POSSIBLY SOME SNOW EARLY FRIDAY.
Thursday... The first round of generally light freezing rain will develop over southern OK during the early morning hours. Most roads will remain just fine during the morning, but a few slick spots could develop on bridges/overpasses with the light freezing rain in southern OK. By the afternoon, light freezing rain will become a little more widespread and push further into N TX and parts of SE OK as temps continue to fall further below freezing. Again, just light ice accumulations expected in most spots through the afternoon, but that could lead to a few slick spots later in the day. A bit of a lull this evening before the most significant round of precip rolls in tonight through Friday morning. This round looks to be heavier, with some moderate to at times heavy freezing rain across SE OK and N TX and freezing rain going to sleet across south-central OK. As temps continue to drop, we could see some sleet changeover to snow mainly in southern OK by Friday morning. Much of Texoma could see at least 1/4" of ice, and there is concern about more of an Ice Storm with possibly 1/2"-3/4"+ of ice in parts of N TX and particularly SE OK, which could lead to power outages, so make plans now to know what you need to do if you do have power outages in your area.
Looking Ahead... Another round of sleet/snow will be possible Saturday PM into Sunday AM, though this round should be a bit lighter.
