Tuesday, the Ardmore soldier who was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq was laid to rest. Hundreds gathered at Ardmore's Hillcrest Memorial Park to pay their respects to 19 year-old Army Specialist Micheal Phillips, and his family. KTEN's Hailee Holliday reports.
Tuesday, flags were at half-staff around the area to honor one of Ardmore's own.
Phillips, also known to his friends and family as "Pokey," joined the military right out of high school.
Friends say his reason for enlisting was to fight for the people he loved.
Since Phillip's recent death, Ardmore residents have mourned, and are proud to call Phillips a hero.
Ardmore Mayor Bob Geurin says, "I met with the family last week and I know the city has been behind them. The young man just graduated from Ardmore High School last May, so he was just beginning to get a chance at life. I've talked with alot of people who know him, and talked about what a neat and great person he was. And I certainly appreciate the entire community baking and the support that they've given to this family."
Friends of Phillips say he will always be remembered for what he did for his country.
