SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Mark your calendars for April 30 at 6 p.m. when the Sherman ISD Bearcat Parent Academy will hold a panel titled "Parenting in a Digital World."

Topics for the event include social media safety, online gaming, and "sextortion." Sierra Moore, an investigator with the Internet Crimes Against Children Investigator unit of the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, said child pornography is a common crime the department investigates.

"One of our goals is to eventually get into the schools and talk to the students," she said. "This is an intro to get the parents involved, get them here, get the information so that if it's not right for your child or it is right for your child, they understand and get the information."

Students and parents from any school district are welcome to attend the discussion. However, children must be 13 years old to attend the panel due to the nature of the content. Click here to RSVP.
