GUNTER, Texas (KTEN)- It has now been over four months since the high school football season ended, but the Gunter Tigers took a trip down memory lane on Monday as they held a ring ceremony to honor their 2023 state championship team.

And it was a beautiful night at Tiger Stadium as all of Gunter's players, coaches, and trainers received a ring celebrating the Tigers' success over Tidehaven in the 3A division II state championship game.

It was the first time the Tigers had earned back-to-back titles in school history.

And as everyone got their first looks at their new hardware, there was plenty of excitement in the air.

"It's awesome. The back-to-back right here, it just means a lot," senior quarterback Walker Overman said "This shows all of our hard work and everything we've put into this."

"It was twice the size I was expecting," senior defensive end Brayden Hinton said. "This thing is freaking awesome."

Gunter head coach Jake Fieszel said he hopes that the ring will remind his players of all they accomplished in a Gunter uniform.

"I'm sure that they'll wear them with pride or have them on a self, but ultimately, it's a testament of a lot of hard work and sacrifice," Fieszel said. "It's a testament of the brotherhood we have here and the brotherhood that they share. That's something that no one can ever take away from them. They were champions."
