FANNIN COUNTY, Texas (KTEN) — The newest reservoir in Texas is finally open to boaters and anglers.

The North Texas Municipal Water District announced Wednesday that Bois d'Arc Lake near Bonham [MAP], is welcoming recreational activities.

There are three boat ramps available — one on the north side of the lake and two on the south side.

"As we celebrate the opening of Bois d’Arc Lake, we share in the anticipation and excitement this new recreational spot brings," said NTMWD executive director and general manager Jenna Covington in a written statement.  "We recognize that public access areas may be crowded in the upcoming weeks, especially during holidays and weekends. Throughout this time, we encourage patience and courtesy to fellow boaters, lake staff, and law enforcement."

Work began on building the $1.6 billion reservoir in May 2018. It was dedicated in October 2022 and began delivering millions of gallons of treated drinking water to North Texas communities one year ago.
