(KTEN) — Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick sent a letter to the chairman of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on Tuesday outlining his opposition to plans for a cement plant in Dorchester, Texas.

At a town hall meeting in Sherman on Monday night, Patrick heard from residents and lawmakers in Grayson County, about how the kiln proposed by Black Mountain Cement would impact people and businesses.

The lieutenant governor wrote, in part:

"Based on everything I have reviewed and my time with the local community, I am firmly opposed to the granting of this permit. There is simply too much risk to the county and its citizens."
