WHITESBORO, Texas (KTEN) — Two weeks from now, voters will decide on two bond issues for the Whitesboro Independent School District.

The propositions on the ballot total $118 million earmarked for renovations.

Superintendent Ryan Harper said the proposal is aimed at dealing with rapid growth within the district, and to prepare for more students in the future.

"We're averaging basically a class increase every year, so between 25 and 50 kids, additional, year after year, after year," Superintendent Ryan Harper said.

The $100 million Proposition A would build an early childhood center, an addition to the high school auditorium, a career and technical education wing addition, a space for agricultural sciences, and other miscellaneous safety, security, and transportation renovations.

Proposition B, with an $18 million price tag, would pay for a multi-purpose building.

"This is a need, and are there a few things in there that are nice to have ... but we have to expect continued growth," Harper said.

Together, the two propositions would take their current 19 cent tax rate to around 37 cents.

"If you're valued at a $280,000 home, it'll be about a $27 a month increase," said Superintendent Ryan Harper.

The district said approval of the two propositions would have no tax rate impact on voters who are 65 years old or more, or who are disabled. Election Day is Saturday, May 4. Early voting will be available on April 22-30 at these locations.
