March was a month of monster hail for Texoma
DENISON, Texas (KTEN) – The dominant weather story in Texoma for the month of March was a record hailstone that was observed in Ada, Oklahoma on March 14. The hailstone measured 5.25 inches in diameter and smashed the old record of 3.25 inches set back in 2017.
For perspective, the all-time Oklahoma hailstone record is 6 inches in diameter; a regulation baseball is less than 3 inches wide.
Windshields were smashed and destroyed all over the city.
High temperatures have ranged from a chilly 55° on March 26 to a balmy 79° on March 14.
A lackluster amount of rainfall has fallen in Texoma throughout March. Our KTEN studios in Denison, Texas has managed to receive 2.93 inches of rain, which is below average for the month. Sherman, Texas typically averages 3.96 inches of rain in March.
Even though Texoma received a below average amount of rain in March, drought conditions have greatly improved! A sprinkling of abnormally dry conditions now exists in Texoma.
As severe weather season begins to ramp up, more rain should be in our future. Any rain can help as we near the dry summer season.
