(KTEN) — Police in Sherman and Denison were investigating an online threat on Wednesday that mentioned Sherman High School, Denison High School, and two major employers in both cities.

The Denison Independent School District issued a statement on Facebook saying there is an active police presence on all campuses and that state agencies are also actively involved in the investigation.

Sherman police issued a similar statement acknowledging the threat that had been posted to social media.

Sherman ISD issued this statement to families and staff at the high school:

The Sherman ISD Police Department is aware of a post circulating on social media that references Sherman High School, Denison High School and two companies in the area.

Please know that there is no evidence of an imminent threat to our school, and the SISD Police Department is actively working with Sherman Police Department and other local law enforcement partners to investigate.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are being especially vigilant and will have extra security on campus for the remainder of this week.

Our commitment to the safety and security of students and staff is our top priority.
