SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — A man was arrested in Sherman on Monday night on charges of theft and unlawful possession  of a firearm.

The suspect, identified as Raul Lopez-Melgoza of Whitewright, allegedly stole diesel fuel from a construction site.

Officers were dispatched after an alarm went off at the site around 8 p.m.

When the first units arrived, they saw a vehicle leaving the area where the alarm originated. They pulled over the vehicle at Vietnam Veterans Parkway.

"During that stop, and during the investigation, it was discovered that the driver stole approximately $250 worth of diesel from the construction site without the owners' consent," said Sherman police spokesperson Sgt. Brett Mullen.

Lopez-Melgoza was arrested for theft and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He was released Tuesday after posting $11,500 bond.
