DURANT, Okla. (KTEN) — The Lulu and Hazel Quilt Shop joined the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting celebration.

The shop was started by two sisters in the back of a used car dealership. Plans to open a larger store next door are in the works to help bring more quilters to town, and to provide folks a way to connect.

"Especially through the last several years, when we've had COVID and different things, you've lost that personal connection... you maybe don't have a reason or an avenue to go and actually sit face-to-face and do something with somebody" said co-owner Kristen banks. "So quilting has been so important in our life."

The business will celebrate eight years this summer.
