DENISON, Texas (KTEN) — The Denison Police Department is offering an opportunity for residents to get an in-depth look of a life of an officer by attending their Citizens Police Academy.

Topics to be covered include the K-9 department,  felony traffic stops, and a mock trial investigation.

The course will run for 12 weeks, and the first class is scheduled for April 2.

"We're really excited to expand our group," said Janice Stephens, president of the Denison Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. "The classes will be here at the police department every Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be lots of hands-on activities."

The deadline to sign up is March 19. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and a background check is required to confirm attendance.
