VAN ALSTYNE, Texas (KTEN)- In Van Alstyne on Tuesday morning, it wasn't just voters putting pen to paper.

Two Panthers made it official where they'll be continuing their athletic careers.

Savannah Soto is headed to Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant for athletic training. She plans to specialize in rodeo sports medicine.

Zachary Thomas meanwhile will continue to battle in the trenches on the football field as he heads to McMurry University in Abilene.

And for both, Tuesday was a day long in the making.

"It's always been a dream of mine. I've been playing football since four so it's always been a big part of my life," Thomas said. "I'm just happy I get to  continue pursuing it."

"I've always grown up around rodeo, and I also show pigs," Soto said. "My freshman year, I got hurt and started getting involved in sports medicine. I realized I wanted both of those aspects [to be] part of my life in the long run. I'm very very excited."
