SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Incumbent Grayson County District Attorney Brett Smith faced a strong challenge from rival John Kermit Hill in Tuesday's Republican primary election.

Late Tuesday night, Hill claimed victory.

"This is just an incredible experience for all of us ...  It's just a matter of blessing and sheer excitement ... We're excited to be moving into the next year, and implementing the changes that need to be made that the voters of Grayson County asked for," Hill told KTEN. "There is going to be integrity in the district attorney's office. We are going to protect and respect the victims and families of victims. We are going to make sure that there is equal justice and fairness for everybody in Grayson County."

Hill will face Democrat Brandy Douglas in November's general election. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
