SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Texoma motorists don't have to look far to find potholes on highways, neighborhood streets, and even driveways.

A USA Today analysis showed Texas ranks No. 22 and Oklahoma No. 35 for worst potholes nationwide.

Potholes can cause severe damage to your vehicle's tires and suspension. Repairs can range anywhere from $150... and up.

"BMWs or Mercedes, we have a a lot of rims damaged, too," said Alex Zurta with First Choice Auto & Tires. "Repairs are very, very expensive."

Hitting a pothole can also lead to bends or cracks that force customers to buy new rims.

The tire shop fixes shredded tires every day that are victims of the rough road conditions.

"Ten people coming in... probably two to three people come with those kind of damages," Zurta said.

First Choice owner Ghareeb Yasin is hoping that highway crews can get to work on pavement repairs.

"I hope everybody is safe, because I drive to Van Alstyne to here every day. I see a lot of potholes on 75," he said.

To reduce your risk, slow down before making contact with a pothole; explore alternate routes; and be extra observant about what's on the horizon when driving.
