BONHAM, Texas (KTEN) — I.W. Evans Intermediate School teacher Jherson Manuel was arrested Thursday morning.

Bonham Independent School District Superintendent Kelly Trompler said the arrest comes after allegations of inappropriate social media communications with a high school student.

Manuel was booked in to the Fannin County Jail on charges of online soliciting of a minor.

Once the district received the complaint from a student, the teacher was immediately removed from the school.

"The district takes this situation seriously, and our highest priority will remain the safety of your child," Trompler said in a letter to parents. "I want to assure you that we are cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities as well as the [Fannin County Children's Advocacy Center] to ensure justice is served."

Manuel is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
