SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Starting Wednesday, Grayson County motorists are on notice that construction work at a major Sherman intersection is going to make traveling a little more difficult.

The Texas Department of Transportation said eastbound and westbound frontage roads of US 82 will be closing for at least five weeks where the highway intersects with US 75.

"While this closure is underway, the north and southbound US 75 frontage roads will be will be shifted onto new pavement, and traffic will be routed onto the new US 82 overpasses," explained TxDOT spokesperson Tim McAlavy.

Both access roads will be reduced to one lane in both directions.

"The reason is, we need to put some underground, under-pavement drainage structures at that new intersection rebuild," McAlavy said.

Additional construction is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 12 on US 75 from US 82 to North Loy Lake Road in Denison. This project will widen the four-lane freeway to six lanes.

"It's going to really affect me from getting to my job site and back, and y'all have a lot of traffic around here," said commuter Christopher Eddings. "I'm from Fort Worth, and when we have road closures like this, they usually divert it into another road that gives us easier access. Y'all closing all this off is just crazy."

TxDOT officials encourage drivers to watch for road crews, and to plan a little more time into their daily commutes.
