DENISON, Texas (KTEN) — Texoma Medical Center, Denison's biggest employer, said Thursday it is "restructuring certain functional areas and departments" to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Layoffs will result from the changes; the hospital characterizes the number as "0.589 percent of our workforce ... none of whom are involved in the front line of patient care."

TMC has said it has more than 3,000 employees; that would mean approximately 18 people will be losing their jobs.

"We are making every effort to support impacted employees, including offering them the opportunity to apply for other currently open positions or providing eligible employees with a separation package," the hospital said in a written statement.

Texoma Medical Center's website currently lists 257 job openings.

TMC noted that it is a "challenging time in the health care industry."
