FANNIN COUNTY, Texas (KTEN) — First responders were busy in Fannin County on Thursday morning, working four crashes in a two-and-a-half hour span.

Two of the accidents were rollovers; another resulted in a victim being airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Fannin County Emergency Management coordinator Troy Hudson blamed icy roads.

"Our weather that we were supposed to receive earlier in the week did not produce any slick roads; however, this was an unusual situation," Hudson said.

The National Weather Service explained that ice formed because the pavement was colder than the air, allowing dew to freeze.

Two of the crashes resulted in injuries. One accident, at the intersection of FM-1396 and FM-897, launched a passenger from the vehicle. They were flown to a nearby hospital.

"We had to shut the highway down for the safety of the first responders, because of the fact that other vehicles coming around the corner were also sliding themselves," Hudson said.
