DENISON, Texas (KTEN) — Outgoing Denison Mayor Janet Gott is no stranger to the city, having lived here her whole life.

But a seat on the city council was a position she never imagined she'd hold.

Gott said her passion to serve led her to the decision to run for mayor after previously serving as a council member for five years.

During her time as mayor, Gott's focus has been on the revitalization of Main Street — specifically, after a 2019 fire wiped out three downtown buildings and damaged three others.

"One of the things I'm most proud of is the fact that in February, we will begin rebuilding those buildings in the 300 block that we lost in the fire," she said.

Gott's term will conclude in May, or in June should a runoff election become necessary.
