More remote health care options in southern Oklahoma
SULPHUR, Okla. (KTEN) — Telehealth appointments are a popular option when it comes to health care.
AARP Oklahoma has funded two new telehealth pods at branches of the Southern Oklahoma Library System.
State legislators, agency officials and local leaders gathered for a ribbon-cutting Friday morning to celebrate the grand opening of the pod at Parker Memorial Library in Sulphur.
The pod is fully equipped with technology and medical equipment needed for a virtual visit, making it more accessible for residents who lack the required resources.
"Since we are situated in such rural communities, we've found that some people can't get to a specialist, a doctor, a follow-up... maybe even having mental health or therapy sessions," said SOLS executive director Gail Oehler. "But by bringing them to a library and having a private room where they can access those physicians and those caregivers, they can do it right there in their community without having to travel."
The Southern Oklahoma Library System has a second health pod in Tishomingo at the Johnston County Library. For information about scheduling an appointment, call one of these numbers:
