(KTEN) — An Oklahoma educator and law enforcement officer is facing charges in Pushmataha County.

Russell Ray Bailey of Antlers, Oklahoma, was charged with assault and battery on October 3, a criminal misdemeanor in the state.

Bailey, 54, is on paid administrative leave from his teaching position at Rattan High School pending the outcome of the investigation.

Rattan Public Schools Superintendent Russell Baze said the charges are related to an incident that happened in the classroom. We were not told the exact nature of that incident.

Bailey has also served as a reserve police officer with the Rattan Police Department, and is on leave from that position as well.

The case has been turned over to the Pushmataha district attorney's office.
