Denison to welcome Captain 'Sully' back home

DENISON, Texas (KTEN) — The City of Denison will celebrate the achievements of a famed aviator and native son with a homecoming parade next month.
You're probably familiar with the exploits of Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger. He safely landed a US Airways passenger jet on the Hudson River shortly after takeoff on January 15, 2009. All 155 passengers and crew survived.
The Denison High School graduate had a distinguished military career with the Air Force and was a commercial pilot for 30 years after that.
Sullenberger, now 72 and retired, served last year as ambassador to the International Civil Aviation Organization.
The city is looking for organizations to participate in the event honoring Sullenberger on Saturday, September 16 at 10 a.m. The deadline to apply is Friday.
