DENISON, Texas (KTEN) — The Denison Arts Council handed out four $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors going to college.

Zalenka Brannon, Brinley Crawley, Abraham Guerra and Alice Magers all received those scholarships on Thursday night.

"They came from home school, Denison High School, Whitesboro, and they had different careers: We got music, we have dance, graphic arts and visual arts," said arts council president Cindy Salem. "So we were able to cover a wide spectrum, and that's our goal... to really help our emerging students."

Each year, the arts council hosts events to raise money to fund the scholarships. Salem said they're already raised enough to assist up to 24 students next year.
