(KTEN) — An Oklahoma National Guard soldier from Bennington has passed away.

The Guard said Jaykob Pruitt, 19, collapsed after completing training drills on Saturday. The cause of Pruitt's death remains under investigation by the McAlester medical examiner.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Jaykob’s family, friends and our fellow Soldiers,” said Maj. Gen. Thomas H. Mancino, adjutant general for Oklahoma, in a written statement. “Together, we are mourning the devastating loss of a promising young man and Soldier."

The Guard said Pruitt earned several awards and decorations during nearly two years of military service, including the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at noon at Bennington High School. Pruitt will be laid to rest with full military honors at Wade Community Cemetery.
