Pancake breakfast raises funds for Southmayd fire department
SOUTHMAYD, Texas (KTEN) — Lots of Texomans showed up for the City of Southmayd's first ever breakfast fundraiser for its fire department.
The goal was to raise money for their fire and rescue team, as inflation and other rising costs have affected funding.
"It's very reassuring that we have the support of our community, and we appreciate all the support and the help," said firefighter Andy Brazie.
He added that they need more supplies and resources.
"Medical calls are just constantly going to increase due to the number of people moving into our fire district," Brazie said.
The breakfast took place at Southmayd Baptist Church; each $7 plate consisted of pancakes, eggs, sausage, and a drink.
Albert Schooley traveled from Austin, Texas, to Lake Texoma this past week where he waited out the winter storm.
"We were watching the news on 10, and they were advertising the breakfast this morning, so we were looking a place to eat, and we were land-locked for around 4 days because of the weather and today was a good day to get out," he said.
The city has plans to host more fundraiser events like this in the future.
