MURRAY COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — The driver of a sport utility vehicle was killed and a passenger was critically injured early Monday morning in a crash on Interstate 35 near Davis.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Probationary Trooper Tanner Hamilton said the Chevrolet Trax driven by Justin A. White, 25, was northbound on the freeway when the SUV left the pavement and hit a support on the State Highway 7 overpass, about 2.5 miles west of Davis, at 2:45 a.m.
"After impact, vehicle rolled downhill and unknown number of times, struck sand barrels and came to rest on its driver side," Hamilton said in a written report. "Driver and passenger of Vehicle-1 were pinned for approximately 30 minutes and freed by Davis Fire Department using the Hurst tool."
Thomas, from Jackson, Mississippi, was taken to Arbuckle Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Passenger Hennessey A. Thomas, 24, of Rayville, Louisiana, was airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City for treatment of multiple injuries.
Both passengers were wearing seat belts. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
