Choctaw County escapee at large (again)
(KTEN) — Tyler Payne, one of two inmates who escaped from the Choctaw County Jail last month, has done it again.
He was nabbed in Mississippi after fleeing the jail in Hugo; now Payne is on the run again after escaping from a detention center in Raymond, Mississippi.
Sheriff Tyree Jones of Hinds County, Mississippi, said Payne and another inmate were reported missing on Christmas morning. The pair is believed to have stolen a white van from a nearby church.
On Sunday afternoon, a white van was recovered from Lake Fork, near Alba, Texas, more than 300 miles west of Raymond.
"A witness reported a white male pushing the van into the water. The van was later removed and confirmed," Jones said in a Facebook post.
Payne, 31 — with a home address in Anna, Texas — had been in custody in Oklahoma on multiple charges, including assault and battery, resisting arrest and carjacking.
Anna police said they were aware of Payne's escape.
"He has nothing to lose, so, yes, I would consider him armed and dangerous," Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park said in a Facebook post.
