(KTEN) -- Fuel prices are dropping as Thanksgiving travel begins this week. According to AAA, the Texas statewide gas price average fell under 3 dollars per gallon.

This is the lowest price since January of this year. In Denison, gas was as low as $2.73 per gallon on Tuesday.

As Texomans hit the road over Thanksgiving, people are excited to see lower gas prices than what we are used to seeing this year.

"I go to graduate school at the University of Arkansas, so coming back for the holidays is nice when you don't have to worry about breaking the bank just to be home," said traveler Kariss Trippe.

The price of regular unleaded fuel is now 4 cents less compared to this time last year. Small improvements, but relief for Texomans as they travel for the holidays.
