POTTSBORO, Texas (KTEN)  — Multiple agencies were involved in a search for a suspect in Pottsboro on Tuesday evening.

Pottsboro police Chief Shone Nix said police responded to a disturbance at the Abbington Junction apartments on Spur 316. The initial report came in as a 911 text. The caller reported that Gene Scheer, 32, was in possession of a handgun.

Dispatchers confirmed that Scheer was wanted on a state warrant.

"It's a blue warrant from Pardons and Parole, which typically means he's going back to prison," Nix said.

When officers entered the second floor apartment, Scheer jumped from a window and fled on foot through a field. Police established a perimeter and deployed a K-9 unit, but the suspect eluded the manhunt.

Nix said a gun was recovered in a subsequent search.

If you see Scheer, Nix advised to call 911 and do not approach the suspect.
