Garvin County teen dies in highway crash
GARVIN COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — A teenage driver from Lindsay was killed Sunday afternoon in a crash on State Highway 76 south of that Garvin County community.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the 17-year-old was behind the wheel of a 2008 Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle when he attempted to make a left turn to a county road.
The Cadillac was hit head-on by a southbound 18-wheeler. OHP said the young driver was pinned in the wreckage for about 40 minutes; he was pronounced dead at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. His name was not released.
The driver of the big rig, identified as 52-year-old Travis D. Christensen of Washington, Oklahoma, was admitted to OU Medical Center with a head injury; he was last reported to be in stable condition. A passenger in the truck was treated for her injuries and released.
The trooper investigating the accident listed the cause as an improper turn in front of oncoming traffic.
