TEXOMA (KTEN) - Ada vs. Ardmore, known to some as "battle of the cats" is one of the most well-known rivalries in southern Oklahoma. This year the game will be a little different with Ardmore already having played a game during zero week.

"We've never had a zero week game," said Ardmore head coach Josh Newby. "I've been here 24 years and we've never had one. It was a different experience. We're used to scrimmaging on that night. I saw some good things in that game and I saw saw some bad things."

The Tigers kicked off their season last Friday night with a 33-20 home win over Lawton Ike, and the team is hoping they have an advantage by already getting those first game jitters out.

"Everybody makes their biggest improvements from week one to week two," said Ardmore senior quarterback Cal Swanson. "I think we're going to make our biggest improvements against Ada and I think its gonna be a good game."

The visiting Cougars will be trying to bounce back from a 3-7 season in 2021, which included a 27-0 loss to Ardmore during that campaign.

"New year, new team but we're still out for vengeance and this year is our revenge year," said Ada senior Jack Morris. "We had a very disappointing year and we're looking to shock the world this year, shock the state."

"The kids are excited," said Ada head coach Brad O'Steen. "This is a new football team. Last year those guys did a great job buying into the system. We were a young ball club."
