SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) -- The City of Sherman held a meeting Tuesday night what citizens would want from a new recreation center.

"We're just asking the community for their input about what they would like to see in a potential future recreation center," said recreation coordinator Dylan Johnson.

After a presentation, the crowd talked about activities and facilities at the proposed center.

"We have to understand; we talk to everyone who meets here today," said presenter Michael Svetz. "But we also have to have an understanding of who's going to be here in the future. So we're going to give that information to City Council. They, in turn, as the policy-makers, make the decision in terms of what the next steps are going to be."

Sarah Biarce was disappointed that not many of her neighbors attended Tuesday's meeting.

"With the growth that we're anticipating, I expected more people to show up this evening," she said. "I'm hoping that the second time they have a run-through, there's interest."

"Those people who did not come, there are a ton of opportunities to engage in this process," said Anthony Escobedo who also attended the meeting. "We're told it may be a three-year process, so come get your input. We do have needs; we do have desires. Let this city know what they are."
