ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) — The Ardmore City Commission has approved an ordinance that restricts and regulates the height of structures in zones near the Downtown Executive Airport and Municipal Airport.

Each zone has height restrictions for man-made structures like buildings and natural structures like trees.

Structures close to the runways are required to be shorter than those in zones farther away. Structures that exceed the height limits can result in safety issues for aircraft taking off and landing.

"When you don't do those things, it restricts what you can do at your airport," explained Ardmore City Manager Kevin Boatright. "For a short period of time, they restricted our night landings, which restricts the use of your airport, so there have been some things that happened in the past, so we basically said, 'What do we need to do as a city to make it better?'"

The new ordinance puts the city's height regulations in line with Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
