TISHOMINGO, Okla. (KTEN) — If you're like me, any time you hear the terms "cryptocurrency" or "Bitcoin" your brain switches off;  let's leave it to cold hard cash, right?

Basically, cryptocurrency is a digital form of money.  One person described it to me as if they're like stocks; each virtual coin goes up and down in value.

There are now a few locations in southern Oklahoma that let you buy cryptocurrency at an ATM.  One store sees customers come and go just to use their machine.

"Every day we have got quite a few customers; they come and buy those things and they send money," said Narayan Subeta, who rented a cryptocurrency ATM.

"Almost one year and a half; people are using it," he said.

For those who want to learn more about virtual money, the Johnston County Library is hosting a free virtual forum on Wednesday night.

"I thought that would be a good choice, because not a lot of my patrons — nor I, in fact — know anything about cryptocurrency other than just the vaguest idea of what it is," said library branch manager Michael Henthorn. "Anybody can attend the class, they just have to contact me and I will send them the Zoom link."

That session begins Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Call the library at 580-371-3006 to obtain access.
