DENISON, TX -- Work is underway at a new Mexican restaurant in downtown Denison.

Rustico is located in the 500 block of West Chestnut Street, and while the restaurant isn't ready to go just yet, the owner, who also runs Ceviche in Durant, says they'll be offering more than just a meal to customers, it'll be a full Latin experience.

Walk through these heavy wooden doors, and you'll experience something a bit out of this world.

"Very excited, very, very excited, I think it's going to be one of those iconic restaurants to visit," said owner, Felipe Gaytan.

Rustico is soon to be Denison’s newest Mexican restaurant, offering a variety of Latin cuisine.

"There is going to be accommodating flavors from the Pacific of Mexico, South of Mexico from the peninsula of Yucatan, and some from Central Mexico," said Gaytan.

With more than 28 years of experience under his belt, for the last two years, owner and head chef Felipe Gaytan has been working hard to make his dream a reality.

"Restaurant business is not easy, but when you love what you do, that makes the whole difference in the world," said Gaytan.

Back in May, choosing Denison as the ultimate flavor destination, for one reason, growth.

"Denison is one of those aggressive cities, that are bringing this type of iconic business to downtown, and I’m glad and proud to work with them," said Gaytan.

More than $200,000 dollars in renovations have been poured into this 10,000 square foot building, housing authenticity and culture.

"We have created a very nice ambiance, with the stone walls, with the decorations and furniture, everything that makes a place really unique," said Gaytan.

From handmade furnishings, to iconic pieces, no detail has been left unturned.

Aiming to immerse customers in a one of a kind feasting journey.

"We have done everything that's possible to make sure we meet the expectation of our guests and viewers," said Gaytan.

The city is hoping Rustico will attract more development into the downtown area.

The restaurant even got some help from the Denison Development Alliance, through a large grant.

It’s expected to open by mid-February 2017.
