DORCHESTER, TX -- It was a close call for a Texoma woman Wednesday when her SUV was hit by a train – she wasn't seriously hurt.

It happened in the small town of Dorchester in Grayson County. People who live in that area say they're not surprised it happened.

Drivers coming through Dorchester have seen delays at the railways every night for the past five years.

"I've sat there for two hours myself," said Wanda Smith, a frustrated driver.

Smith says when she's not in it, she's watching the cars pile up from her back porch.

"And I know they've sat there for four hours on a Sunday evening," said Smith.

She says the hours waiting get frustrating, but the fear for drivers' safety gets scary.

"I told them to watch out,” she said, “because another one could be coming."

The railway is a double track and many drivers try to avoid the wait by going around the track that's stopped.

That's what happened to a woman Wednesday afternoon, when her SUV collided with an oncoming train, fortunately her injuries were minor.

"They don't realize that another may be coming,” said Smith, “there's no alarms or anything."

Only one of the three railroad crossings in town has crossing arms, the on Mackey Road and Main Street. But the other two have no lights and no alarms.

One of the biggest concerns for people here in Dorchester is who is waiting at these crossings. They say emergency crews can get struck here and it can prevent them from saving lives.

"I've seen a house burn and they're blocked,” she said, “they wouldn't break the track.”

It's happened more than once in the last five years, leading the city to recently being in TxDot for some analysis.

No word on any changes for the near future. But of course, troopers are reminding drivers to be careful on these railroad crossings and others in Texoma.
