SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Dirt is now being moved for the Sherman's newest elementary school.

Approximately 700 students will fill the halls of the school located on the west side of Plainview Road, north of US 82 starting with the 2025-26 school year.

The project is part of a $540 million bond package that was approved by Sherman Independent School District voters in 2023.

Along with a new school, development of Heritage Ranch will include about 750 single-family homes and roughly 600 to 900 multifamily units in the coming years.

It's proof that more people are moving to Sherman, and the city is trying to stay ahead of the curve.

"What's the quality of life? So you'll see — especially now in the Metroplex and some of the bigger growing cities — where you have elementary schools within a community, subdivision there, and that's what we're bringing here to Sherman and Grayson County," said Covenant Development president Ryan Johnson.

The Sherman school board is still working on a name for the new elementary school.
