INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (KTEN) — Denison High School graduate Lindsay Looney came up just one place short of earning a spot on Team USA at the Paris Olympics on Thursday.

In a race where the top two swimmers secured their Olympic spots, she finished third in the Women's 200 meter butterfly at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis. She was bested by 2020 Olympic silver medalist Regan Smith and 17-year old sensation Alex Shackell.

Despite coming up short, it was still a remarkable race for Looney. Her time of 2:07.03 is nearly 1.4 seconds faster than the time she posted at the 2020 Olympic Trials.
