SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — The Boys & Girls Club of Sherman celebrated the opening of its first-ever playground on Tuesday morning.

While the club has been a part of Sherman since 1966, it's never had a playground. That changed after donations funded the project.

"I just think it brings a lot to the community," said Boys & Girls Club executive officer Mark Ellison.  "Just to be able to get outside, and be safe by getting outside with the new playground, the new fenced-in area... it's great for the kids that come to the club."

The playground was dedicated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Boys & Girls Club serves 250 children at its summer program.
