CARTER COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — Two Madill residents lost their lives Sunday afternoon when their sport utility vehicle crashed on a rainy highway near Gene Autry, Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Terry Ashby, 53, was behind the wheel of a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox at the time of the incident. 

Both he and 54-year-old Virgenia Ashby were pronounced dead at the scene of the incident on State Highway 53, about one mile west of Gene Autry.

The victims were both wearing seat belts, and the vehicle's airbags were deployed, troopers said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
