SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — US Army veteran Sgt. Rocky Miller was inducted into the Texoma Heroes hall of fame on Friday.

Although his time in service took him away from some of life's precious moments, Miller's dedication to the country remains today.

On January 8, 2008, Miller was deployed to Iraq as a military police officer. His son Wyatt was just three days old.

Miller's duties include training Iraqi police on route clearances.

He returned home on April 22, 2009, and left active duty in 2011.

Miller remains dedicated to giving time back to others in the military.

"Take the time with your family, reach out to a loved one, a buddy, a fellow friend... somebody you served with... somebody who is currently serving," he said. "It's called a 'buddy check' — reach out and talk to somebody… they could always use it."
