KINGSTON, Okla. (KTEN) — Less than 24 hours after Kingston police chief Kasey Cox was terminated at a city council meeting, an interim chief has been named.

An emergency notice was posted outside the Town Hall at 7:55 Wednesday morning to announce a 10 a.m.  meeting to discuss and possibly take action to appoint an interim chief.

That sign has since been taken down. According to the city officials, police Maj. Steve Miller will take over as chief.

The item on the meeting agenda Tuesday night stated: “Take action on employment of Kasey Cox.” After the decision on Cox's fate was made behind closed doors, the mayor and council members declined to comment, offering no reason for the termination.

Kasey Cox told KTEN on Wednesday he will absolutely be fighting this decision.
