JOHNSTON COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — State Highway 177 near Mannsville was closed to traffic for several hours Sunday as law enforcement dealt with a potential hostage situation.

Johnston County Sheriff Gary Dodd said the situation was "peacefully resolved" with the help of deputies from Love County and Chickasaw Lighthorse Police negotiators.

"While we regret any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the highway, it was a necessary measure taken in the interest of public safety," Dodd said in a statement posted to Facebook on Monday.

Dodd provided no details about any hostages or arrests made during the operation.
