MURRAY COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — A Davis lawyer is preparing to start his role in a county position.

Mark Melton was appointed by Gov. Kevin Stitt to be Murray County's associate district judge following the resignation of Aaron Duck in October.

Melton, a Murray County native, was selected among three finalists.

"My job is no longer to pick a side and go with it," Melton explained. "I have to make decisions now based off the facts that are presented and the law, and I need to call a strike a strike. There's going to be an adjustment, for sure."

Melton will start his role on March 15, and if he chooses, can run for re-election in 2026.
