LONE GROVE, OKLAHOMA (KTEN)-

In Lone Grove, it was a special night on Monday as Longhorn sophomore Jonah Spradlin earned the 2023 Nate Fleming Oklahoma AAU athlete of the year award.

The award is named after Nate Fleming, who tragically passed away in a 2001 plane crash involving the Oklahoma State basketball team. It honors an athlete for not only their accomplishments on the field but for their character as well.

Spradlin becomes the first AAU taekwondo varsity athlete to win the award. He's also the first Lone Grove athlete to ever win it.

In addition to taekwondo, he competes in powerlifting, track, and cross country, and he was honored to be recognized on Monday.

"I just feel so grateful to get it," Spradlin said. "It means a lot to me knowing there's a deep meaning to it and all."
