SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team earned a big overtime win over Schreiner University on Saturday, pulling away in the extra frame to down the Mountaineers 79-70 in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 9-11 overall and 5-7 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Joshua Joe poured in 24 points, matching his season-high, including 11 in the overtime period to lead the 'Roos to victory and keep Austin College in the hunt for a berth in the SCAC Tournament. The 'Roos found themselves trailing 33-25 at halftime as they made just 27.6% from the field and only 1-of-8 three point attempts, while the Mountaineers hit 44.4% from the floor. Schreiner pushed the deficit to double-figures early in the second half, taking a 39-28 lead with 17:29 left in regulation before Ethan Pearce knocked down a triple and Jordan Hudgins scored to cut it to 39-33. The Mountaineers managed to stay in front for most of the second half, with Kamden Ross making it 59-50 at the 7:20 mark.

Schreiner held a 65-60 lead with 1:43 left to play, but Joe knocked down a jumper and Kidus Getenet buried a three to tie things up with 56 seconds remaining, and that's how things would stand as the teams headed into overtime. Austin College took control early in the extra period, with Joe hitting a three and Hudgins scoring to make it 70-65. Schreiner was unable to close the gap down the stretch, and Joe hit six free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory for the 'Roos. He finished the game making 12-of-15 from the stripe.

Joe added six rebounds and two assists in the win, while Getenet finished with 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Tristan Dick came up just shy of a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Ross, who leads the SCAC in both scoring and rebounding, paced the Mountaineers with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Dylan Mackey had 12 points and five assists.
