SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Austin College combined service and inclusion as it hosted a Special Olympics basketball tournament on Wednesday.

This is the tenth year of the collaboration, which is held on the school's annual JanServe Day, where students can choose to volunteer as part of their service.

Hundreds of athletes from across North Texas competed this year. Rather than playing full games of basketball, the athletes displayed their skills at dribbling, passing, and shooting baskets.

Meanwhile, student volunteers from both Austin College and Sherman High School kept everything running smoothly.

"It's great to see students from the Austin College student body — as well as Sherman High School — being here, taking part of their morning and being here and participating with these kids," said student organizer Pedro Echeverria.

As part of celebrating Austin College's 175th anniversary, the school built in more service events throughout the year.
