ARDMORE, Okla. (KTEN) -- Some Ardmore small businesses received a boost from weekend shopping.

Between Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, an influx of shoppers downtown was a surprise for staff with the Ardmore Main Street Authority because they say people usually go to big box retailers.

They credit an increase in national and local advertising.

"There's been more marketing done to shop small, so it's continued to grow over the years," Main Street Authority general manager Allison Meredith said. "I think that's helped small businesses have more awareness. American Express has been a huge push on shop small Saturday's."

According to the Ardmore Chamber, 18 businesses participated in Small Business Saturday this year.
